Winter Eye Care Tips
As we are well into the winter period it is important to remember that protecting our eyes is just as important as it is for the rest of our body during the colder months.
As we are well into the winter period it is important to remember that protecting our eyes is just as important as it is for the rest of our body during the colder months.
One of the most common problems with the winter months is the increase in people who suffer from dry eyes which can be triggered from the wind, low humidity, colder temperatures, and the increased usage of indoor heating systems.
Some dry eyes symptoms may include eyes that feel:
- itchy
- sore
- gritty
- red
- sensitive to light
Occasional dry eye symptoms due to weather changes aren’t usually too serious, however, if your symptoms begin to worsen when in changing conditions you should use treatments, such as eye drops, and prevention methods to treat dry eyes. If your symptoms don’t improve it is recommended to visit an optician.
Another way to protect your eyes during the winter months is to wear sunglasses when you step outside. It may be common to protect our eyes during the summer months but with the addition of snow and ice appearing on the ground over the winter months the sun has more surfaces to bounce off and can cause just as much damage to your eyes like during the summer.
